«Smolenskaya» is the station of the Filyovskaya line of the Moscow metro. Located on the line between Arbatskaya and Kievskaya stations. There is an open area between Smolenskaya and Kievskaya (Smolensky metro bridge).

It was opened on May 15, 1935 as part of the section of the first stage of 13 stations «Sokolniki» — «Park Kultury» with a branch «Okhotny Ryad» — «Smolenskaya».

From 1953 to 1958, the shallow section «Kalininskaya» — «Kievskaya» was closed. The station was used as a warehouse.

In 1991, it was proposed to change the name of the station to Novinskaya in order to avoid confusion between the two unrelated stations.
